On Tuesday, October 28, Ashlynn Hull, and her parents, Amy and Daryl were welcomed to the TD Garden in Boston on behalf of the Zebras Care Foundation. NHL Officials Wes McCauley, Tony Sericolo, Michel Cormier and Dave Lewis had the pleasure of meeting Ashlynn and her family on this special evening in which the hometown Boston Bruins took on the Minnesota Wild.
Prior to the game, Ashynn and her family met the officials in the locker room where she was presented with an NHL Officials Jersey and many other gifts on behalf of the Zebras Care Foundation. Ashynn got to experience firsthand what it is like to sit on the Bruins bench and even had the opportunity to walk on the ice at the TD Garden arena.
Ashynn, who is turning 11 years old in March, is from Dracut, MA. While Ashynn was wearing a Patrice Bergeron jersey signed by many Bruin players she told the officials her new favourite player is Bruins star goaltender Tukka Rask. She was also quick to tell officials that she is a huge Bruins fan and that every game she has been to, the Bruins have won! While Ashynn enjoys hockey, she also loves Scooby Doo and going to concerts.
While there were no fights in the hockey game on this evening, it is clear that Ashlynn is quite the fighter. She was diagnosed with medulloblastoma at the age of 2 and underwent a bone marrow transplant at age 3. Ashlynn was joined at the game with many cancer patients, survivors, and supporters as the Bruins were hosting Hockey Fights Cancer night. The American National Anthem and the opening faceoff were conducted by cancer survivors.
Wes, Tony, Michel, Dave and the rest of the NHL Officials Association would like to thank Ashlynn for coming to the game and meeting the officials. We all wish her the best for the future and are proud of all the fighting she has endured over the years.
