Breea, Maria, Frankie, Tanner, and Adrienne visit NHLOA members in Toronto
ZEBRAS CARE VISIT – Tim Horton Children’s Foundation – Toronto – January 19 2015
On Monday January 19th NHL officials Dave Jackson, Greg Kimmerly, Steve Miller and Brad Kovachik had the pleasure of meeting five students from George R. Gauld School in Mimico ON. These children, Breea, Maria, Frankie, Tanner and Adrienne will have the good fortune of visiting the Tim Horton Memorial Camp in Parry Sound during their school break in March. Prior to the game, the children visited the officials and asked a number of excellent questions. Majority of these questions focused on the Official’s role in the game and how we made our way to the NHL. The children were joined by Megan from the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation (THCF) and Richard, a school representative. An interesting note to this game is that Rick, one of the Tim Hortons Restaurant Owners sponsoring the initiative, attended George R. Gauld School as a child. Rick owns the Tim Hortons restaurants in the area where the school is located, so this was a true community event.
Highlights for the children that evening were some time spent at ice level during the pre-game warm up and being shown on the large video screen during a break in the action. The visiting team this night was the Carolina Hurricanes. It was not a great night for the home town Leaf’s, but there is a report that the girls defended the actions of the Official’s when some unfriendly fans disagreed with penalty calls. This evening for the children was due to the generosity of the GTA Tim Hortons Restaurant Owners. This partnership gives the children a chance to experience a NHL game in a unique way. The evening exposes the children to the behind the scenes aspects of NHL officials and our role in the game. Zebra’s Care is pleased to partner with the THCF to help give youth experiences that will make them strong leaders.
