Biography
The Troy, NY native started playing hockey at the age of 8 years old. Sericolo who later served as the captain of the men’s hockey team at the American International College (AIC) and where he was part in his junior year of the Yellow Jackets’s team that captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Championship started officiating after graduating from the Springfield, MA institution.
His officiating journey first started with youth hockey games for USA Hockey but his talent was quickly recognized making him move through the level at a quick pace. Under the guidance of another AIC Alumnus, former NHL linesman Kevin Collins, Sericolo reached the American Hockey League soon after where he would work two Calder Cup Finals.
Eight years after trading his stick for a whistle, Sericolo was offered a minor-league linesman contract by the National Hockey League in the summer of 1998. Three days after being hired by the NHL, his oldest daughter was born on August 4th which prompt him to choose jersey number 84, signifying her birth month and day.
He would work one full season under the minor-league status before being promoted as a full-time NHL linesman the following summer (1999).
